Dave’s Stack – February 8 – Old Man of Mars

TOP o’ My Stack
John Carter, Warlord of Mars is a character created over one hundred years ago by Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs. I have been a fan of John Carter since I read A Princess of Mars over thirty years ago. John Carter is a classic adventure character who always wins in the end. He is an inspiration to all those around him though they themselves be brave heroes–including his wife and aforementioned Princess of Helium, Dejah Thoris. Captain John Carter of Virginia is known to tell compatriots in times of trouble that “where there is life there is hope”.
This series is titled “John Carter: The End”. So will John Carter and Dejah Thoris win in the end? Or will hope run out for John Carter as does his life?
One thing I am sure of is that it will be an interesting story with interesting character development because Brian Wood is involved. Even if you skip this comic, be sure to check out The Massive or Demo or the current Aliens: Defiant.
Dynamite Entertainment says:
“THE DEATH OF MARS! Centuries have passed and time has taken its toll. Conflict burns across the landscape of Barsoom. A war of supremacy and genocide at the hands of a brutal despot has brought the planet to the edge of collapse. A search party has finally located an aged John Carter and Dejah Thoris, living in quiet seclusion on a desert moon, in perpetual mourning for a lost son. How could they be Mars’ last hope?”
