Dave’s Stack – December 7 – Comics Based On…

December 7, 2016

Movies are comics and comics are movies

Many of your favorite movies and TV shows are based on comics? Well, a lot of my favorite comics are based on movies and TV shows (and toys and video games). One of the first titles I ever collected was Marvel‘s first run of Star Wars and another was a toy tie-in called Micronauts. So many favorite films and series get new life in comics. Sometimes the impossible happens like when Jack Burton meets Snake Plissken in Big Trouble In Little China Escape From New York.

This feature was the TOP o’ My Stack where I pick one book to review but now I reveal my entire stack every week too. Scroll down and you will find my pick of the litter with a mini review.

TOP o’ My Stack

(W) Garth Ennis (A) Carlos Ezquerra (CA) Isaac Hannaford

I have never played the game app World of Tanks but I have read comics by Garth Ennis, and that’s why I first picked this up. Ennis writes good comics and he sure writes good war comics. In this story we see both sides of World War II tank battles from the point of view of two tank commanders and crew. This has all the hardware talk you might expect and more character than you would expect from a gaming tie-in. Carlos Ezquerra has been teaming up with Ennis for years and he is excellent as usual.

Dark Horse says: In the war-torn countryside of Normandy, the battle continues to rage as Linnet’s crew experiences the tortures of war firsthand. Garth Ennis (Preacher, Hellblazer) and Carlos Ezquerra (Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog) team up to create a tense war story inspired by the massively popular online game World of Tanks.
